Is This an Attack Ad?

Now, I may support Senator Clinton, but at least you know my biases, having said that, I'm one of the most objective Clinton supporters you are likely to meet. Senator Obama is now accusing Clinton of running the first attack ad of the campaign season. While the ad does mention Obama, the ad is factually correct and displays specifics. Clinton was for a foreclosure moratorium (I support this), Obama was not. Clinton is for a gas tax holiday (I do not support this), Obama is not. This is simply stating a factual difference. If that is an attack ad, then I cannot imagine what I would see in the fall. Is the ad tough? Yes. Is it an attack ad? No. Can it be viewed that way? Obama thinks so.

Obama Denounces Wright

Today, Barack Obama denounced Rev. Wright over his controversial remarks last March and his comments at the National Press Club.

Instead of quoting him, here is the man himself.

Whether or not this is enough remains to be seen, but according to recent polls, the Wright controversy has certainly done its damage, particularly among white voters. What people can do with Obama's denunciation is read between the lines. Rev. Wright said Obama is a politician and as a politician reads the polls and says what he has to say. Today, the polls show Obama in a closer race in North Carolina and nationally against both Clinton and McCain. Obama addressed that issue in the video above, and I believe him. Nevertheless, Obama's comments could not come at a better time.

As a side note, it is heartbreaking to see Obama throw the man who married him and baptized his children under the bus. As we say, this is politics.

McCain Targets Healthcare

One of the biggest challenges for McCain is domestic issues. No one doubts McCain's national security credentials, but McCain's performance on the stump has been subpar when it comes to the economy and domestic issues. Now, McCain is trying to address the issue with this new spot on Health Care.

NC Governor Mike Easley Endorses Clinton

A little surprising in my opinion, but today, Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of outgoing North Carolina Governor, Mike Easley. This endorsement marks the second superdelegate endorsement from North Carolina for Clinton. Obama has six.

The endorsement comes a little late in my opinion, but could give her a small boost and momentum in the state. She is likely to lose by double digits, but if Clinton manages to keep the race in single digits, look for Easley to jump up a few notches on Clinton's VP list.

Easley is also a superdelegate.

The latest Rasmussen poll shows Obama losing some ground in NC, now leading Clinton 51% to 37%. That is down from a 23-point lead in the last poll. Survey USA has the race in single digits with Obama leading 50% to 41%. PPP (which had Obama winning PA by 3%, but is a NC firm) shows Obama's lead shrinking from 25% to 12%, now 51% to 39%. With the Easley endorsement, the reemergence of Rev. Wright and the GOP ad campaign, don't be surprised if the race is closer than expected when all is set and done.

Keep in mind, Clinton has never over-performed in a southern election, so be very cautious with these polls. Firms have tended to under poll Obama in the south.

Ad Wars

The ad wars continue. This one is from Hillary Clinton using Obama's "cling" comment against him.

Here is Obama's response.

And yet another ad hitting Obama by the Clinton camp. This one I think is more effective than their "cling" ad.

Huckabee: Ron Paul's Comments “Ludicrous and Unacceptable”

I’m a little late on this, but nevertheless…

Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul had a little scuffle in the FOX News debate (which I did not see) and it continued afterward.

Here is the brawl in question:

I posted it because I want to point out, Ron Paul lost this fray the minute he said Republicans are going down next year if we don’t change our foreign policy. Mike Huckabee won because he mentioned honor. Paul may be right, we as a country need to fix our mistakes, but Huckabee is also right, as the greatest nation the world has ever given birth to, the citizens and leaders of this country must hold our heads up high.

Afterward, Huckabee further responded by saying Paul’s comments were “ludicrous and unacceptable.”

If I was a Republican, I would dump Giuliani, Romney, McCain and Thompson and fully endorse Huckabee for President. He may not win, but he will keep the Party intact and full of honor and that is what the Grand Ole Party lacks today. Honor.

Will John Warner Retire?

Will John Warner retire? Speculation arose this week about the possibility that the long time Senator will not run for a sixth term in 2008. If that's the case, Congressman Tom Davis will become a top contender for the Republican nomination, while Schumer will likely pressure Mark Warner, former Governor of Virginia, to make a run for the office.

With such a close Allen vs. Webb race last year, this seat could be highly contested if left open.

Elizabeth Edwards vs. Ann Coulter

It was great that's all I have to say.

I personally thought Coulter's defense was childish, though I do agree with her comments, but I also agree with Mrs. Edwards.

Elizabeth Edwards won this informal debate in my opinion, but Coulter proved a point she was trying to make. Can you catch it?

Oh Jesus!

The story speaks for itself.

I have to say, it will score him some points with liberal Democrats (which is good), but it is not something you want to say if you intend to run in a general election, not because the Conservative right will not vote for him--they will never vote for a Democrat--but because it gives Republicans ammunition.

Giuliani's Bad Week (Concerning ISG)

It certainly was a bad week for Rudy Giuliani. Every candidate has one (or two or three), but it helps if the bad weeks are sooner rather than later. However, a problem arises when one of the political stories associated with your bad week contradicts the touted credentials and platform you are running on. In this case, I’m talking about national security.

There is no harm done in going for cash than working all day long to put an acceptable end to the most destructive U.S.-led war since Vietnam, right? It depends on how you see it. If you are a Republican you may be cursing me and his godforsaken post. If you are a Democrat you are praising the revelation of this story. Am I right? Maybe not. Nevertheless, it reveals Giuliani’s state of mind and something most New Yorkers already know about him. Have you figured it out yet, because I’m not telling. Having said that--which is not much--this does not help Giuliani with his likability, and his national security credentials.

Clinton Pays Tribute to 'The Sopranos' to Announce Campaign Song

Check out Hillary Clinton's announcement of her winning campaign song. It has great production value, humor and something for Republicans to sympathize with.

The link to the song is on the right side of the video. It's not something I would choose, or even listen to, but it's a good song nonetheless.

Hillary Clinton Reaches Out to Women

They are the most loyal group of the electorate to Hillary Clinton, but can she keep them? This is what Clinton is trying to do in her new effort to call out to women to support her in her fight for equal pay.

A growing number of young women are voting. They are primarily liberal, ideologically speaking, and part of the working class. When the majority of the general electorate are women, I think it is smart for any candidate to do as much as they can to tap into that voting pool.

Plus, here is a short video of Clinton in Selma.

McCain New Website Design and Video

McCain's exploratory committee website was revamped yeaterday and with it has a new video.

The website still has that powerful black and white design that actually fits the Senator very well.

Check out the overdevloped, dramatic video here. It really gets you excited (not like that).

Can A Third Party Candidate Bring Down Clinton?

The Nation had an article speculating that if Clinton wins the nomination, there will be a third party candidate, likely running against her.

Ralph Nader has already said he will let us know about making the run again and we know what kind of a killjoy he can be. Someone will step up to give the country another choice. It could be a fusion ticket of Chuck Hagel and Barak Obama. Or in the panic and anger over a Hillary presidency, we might have Colin Powell and Bernie Sanders (the Vermont socialist Senator) running together as the popular front, national unity candidates.

We know Nader will run if Clinton wins the Nomination. He dislikes this woman and he will do anything to take votes away from the Democrats, but chances are, he will not get very far. If Nader runs, he will get less than 1% of the vote in 2008. Likely less than half a percent. Voters are tired of hearing the name Nader. If Nader runs on a "I Hate Hillary" ticket, he has no chance at making a dent to the results.

Then we have a fusion ticket. I highly doubt this will happen next year. If McCain or Giuliani wins the nomination, there is a good chance of a Conservative-led third party ticket, which will split the Republican vote, much like in 1992 when Bill Clinton secured his victory over Bush41. But a GOP/DEM ticket is unlikely. As for Colin Powell. He will never run for President. Trust me.

In my opinion, no third party candidate can bring down Clinton. Only Clinton and the Republican party as a whole can bring down Clinton.

Other news on Clinton include a new video by Hillary Clinton on the Iraq war. You can check it out here.
